The legendary director of Indian cinema especially down south with 75 films and 48 of them in Kannada and nine are Dr Rajakumar starring films – Vijaya Reddy at the age of 83 was at the ‘Belli Hejje’ organized by Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy and Information Department on Saturday evening at Gandhi Bhavan Mahadeva Desai Auditorium.
Vijaya Reddy eminent director was recently honored by Dr Rajakumar house with ‘Dr Rajakumar Souharda Award’ and on Saturday he was felicitated by KCA with huge attendance.
Vijaya Reddy directed memorable films like Mayoora, Gadhada Gudi, Huliya Halina Mevu, Naa Ninna Bidalaare, Srinivasa Kalyana, Bhakta Prahallada, Sanadi Appanna – all Dr Rajakumar films besides Auto Raaja, Karnataka Suputra, Naa Ninna Bidalaare, Mullina Gulabi….Vijaya Reddy born in the year 1936 entered Madras the center of cinema activity in South India in 1953. He Joined Vittalacharya camp in 1953 as editing assistant and soon he became assistat director and later took up his first film in Telugu ‘Srimathi’.
In 1970 from ‘Rangamahal Rahasya’ he turned director and went on with hits after hits. Modala Rathri, Cowboy Kulla are his film productions in Kannada.
It was 72 ‘Belli Hejje’ of prestigious KCA of Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar. The director of comedy, mythological, historical, social and horror films Vijaya Reddy has always kept up the values in his films disclosed Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar.
At the Belli Hejje 28 minutes documentary on Vijaya Reddy (Ravindranath Siri direction) and photo exhibition was the highlight.
Veterans like KCN Chandrasekhar, KFCC President Jai Raj, Raghavendra Rajakumar, Dr Jayanthi, SA Chinne Gowda, Sa Ra Govindu, Om Sai Prakash, MS Umesh and others were present.
