MANTRAM MAGNIFICENT SECOND HALF
Posted date: 02 Sat, Dec 2017 02:14:05 PM
Title – MANTRAM, Producer – Amar Chaudhary, Direction – SS Sajjan, Cinematography – Rajashekhar, Music – Rashid Khan, Cast – Mani Shetty, Pallavi Raju, Dilip, Gowrish Akki, Baby Sthavana, Shashi Deshpande, Arpith, Mithun, Pratap, Poornima, Anil, Vishwanath, Jagadish, Undadigunda Harish and others.

Young director S S Sajjan has done a pretty good home work that touches your heart in the second half. ‘Mantram’ is not just another horror film. It is a film with purpose and the purpose is very interesting for the general public.

SS Sajjan has collected good data first for Sri Aayi G Films production of Amar Chaudhari. He has struggled in the first half to keep the audience to the seats. In the second half automatically you would be glued to the edge of seats.

The atrocity on child and women is his concept. How cleverly he mixes the horror element to a child abuse and murder episode is what strikes to any stony hearts.

The life of just married couple in the huge bungalow that has parents, two sisters and three free loaders, things are not in good condition right from the first day.

Sanju and Radha (Mani Shetty and Pallavi Raju) are affected by a ghost. The ghost is not ordinary. It does not roll the heads of innocents but only look at the tormentors.

At one stage the head of the family decide to rope in mantrik to set right the condition. The mantrik fails in his first attempt and in his second attempt he brings in Muslim and Christian religious leaders to solve the crisis in the house.

At this stage the character of Mani Shetty sitting in a ‘Mandal of Mantrik’ opens up the reasons for such behavior. That entire episode of a child and father – proceedings is blood curdling.

It is not right to explain this flash back to you because you would lose the interest of watching the film. Finally when the curtains are about to fall the statistical data that director Sajjan provides on silver screen is stunning. Is this the society we are living in comes to mind.

The first half liveliness was only required aspect from this director Sajjan. He has made a convincing second half.

The film is technically good in ghost portions. The special effects, background score lifts the mood for the film.

Mani Shetty and Pallavi Raju are at roaring best. The child character of Baby Sthavana and Gowrish Akki portions are well portrayed. This child actress Sthavana should get an award for innocence.

‘Mantram’ - mixing the social relevance, innocence, love of a child, the tragedy happening around us – is worth watching cinema.
