The first dry spell of the year has started in Kannada filmdom. With no control over the script and confusing screenplay debutant director Tushar Ranganath should have been careful. The speed of the film, the contents, the screenplay style and above all excellent dialogues expected from this dialogue writer by profession is lacking in ‘Ghulama’.

This is not the right kind of film for Prajwal Devaraj at this age and stage of his career. He still looks like a butter scotch ice candy and playing the lover boy on Kannada screen would be more appropriate. Gurukiran the senior music director has gone out of stock it seems. He has retuned earlier ones of other music directors.

What is Ghulama? It is about youth Anil who is mad about Priyanka (Prajwal and Bienca Desai). He is not able to express his love while in his vicinities there is another girl Divya (Sonu) madly in love with Anil. The dynamic prince of Kannada cinema is on one side love and Divya too is on one side love.

Anil does not care for his police ‘Pappa’. He likes weapons and his anger is uncontrollable. Papa dies for his son’s atrocious attitude. Anil rises to the peak once he eliminates the kingpin of the underworld. What does he want? Priya but Priya says ‘Devra Jothe Deha Hege Hanchikollodhu’. She considers Anil in her life as God. Obviously Anil in the end gives up his weapons and agrees for the match with Divya.

Prajwal has struggled hard but this will be hardly accepted. Bienca Desai is pretty good. Chudi Dhar heroine Sonu has a bit of chance to act in this film.

Gurukiran scores and Shekar Chandra has not given fine shots to make it a visual treat to the eyes.

The first rowdism film of the 2009 is not convincing.
