MAANJRA IN KANNADA AND MARATHI

‘Maanjra’ is the name of the river in Belagavi and that is recognized even in Maharashtra made this debutant director Muthuraj to select it as common title for his bilingual film in Kannada and Marathi.

When director Muthuraj was in eight standard he had read a report in ‘E Nadu’ newspaper and decided then (18 years ago) to make this as a film in his career. It was a real life incident. The girl connected to the incident is not living today. Muthuraj has shot for this film in the same girl house without their knowledge. During the process of shooting the inmates came to know about the story and created problems. With the village head he solved the case. The boy connected to it is not in Karnataka. After incident in a Belagavi village Bombarga he moved to Maharashtra for health reasons. Muthuraj acquired permission from the concerned person relatives for the film.

He hails from Karnool district of Andhra Pradesh. He worked in Telugu film director Nandini Reddy as assistant and then in a Tamil film director Selvam prior to this film takeoff. He is from Andhra Prades, heroine Apoorva is from Belagavi a Marathi speaking, hero Ranjit Singh is basically from Pune and producer Ravi Arjun Poojari is from Karnataka.

There will be Marathi dialogue with sub titles in Kannada version and Kannada dialogues for heroine portion with Marathi subtitles he says. Muthuraj story, screenplay, dialogue and direction is a rural love story and it is not connected to films like ‘Sairat’ Marathi film blockbuster that was made in Kannada too. The original lover’s names in this case are Padma and Balaram – the tragic love story of the two is made in commercial format.  Muthuraj held shooting at Belagavi, Kerala, Goa and Karwar. There are five songs in this film.

Ranjit Singh was picked when he had come to Chennai for a Tamil film audition of ‘Venilla Kabbaddi Boys’. According to him sixty percent of the film script is real life incident and remaining is given new color to the film. He is the son of Jilla Panchayat President in the film.

Apoorva a Marathi speaking girl in Belagavi district plays ‘Halu Maruva Hudugi’ role in this film.

Ravi Arjun Poojar is producer of this film and he is close friend of villain character Ranjan in the film. He owns 60 acres of land and runs a hardware shop.

Villain character Ranjan from small roles in cinema was offered main trouble shooter role. He was apprehensive when the role was offered. Director had confidence in me and prepared for the role in one month says Ranjan.

‘Maanjra’ is made in Sri Durga Parameshwari Cine Combines, Sayyad Yasincinematography, Chinmaya M Rao music, V Nagendra Prasad and Chinmaya Rao lyrics, Deepak Sharma editing, Usha dance, Ultimate Shivu stunts, Tharmacoal Srinivas art are part of technical team.

In the supporting cast are Nalini Vidyasagar, CS Patil, Nagesh Kumar, Vishalakshmi Hegde, Yash, Manjunath Gowda, Somashekhar, Shivanayak, Satish Bambaraga and others.
