ISRA comes to Karnataka and the Karnataka chapter was declared open by Sanjay Tandon CEO of Indian Singers Rights Association.
Hitherto there was royalty to music composer and lyricist from IPRS – Indian Performing Rights Society. Now ISRA gives opportunity to singers to claim royalty in legal way. The amendment to Copy Right Act in 2012 and the Parliament unanimous decision to get royalty to singers has given a new form of revenue for Indian Singers.
As of now the ISRA have given Rs.51 lakhs as royalty to 730 singers in India. This is a legal format of asking royalty. Wherever the commercial platform the songs are played the simple price structure has to be followed. Every year March the ISRA distribute the collection to respective singers.
The audio industry has no say in this and the vigilance cell to find the user is working here afterwards. As most of the veteran singers songs are played in religious places, the ISRA is going low on it. It is working as a felicitator to get royalty.
The Karnataka chapter is represented by Sowmya Rao. The veteran singers like BK Sumithra, Kashuri Shanker, Manjula Gururaj, Puttur Narasimha Nayak, Indu Vishwanth, Dr Jayasri Aravind, Chandrika Gururaj and others felt happy for a fine move by ISRA.
Some of the junior singers also took part in the media address on this occasion.
