The national award winning actress the matchless actress of Kannada cinema Umasree responding to the SMS message sent by this journalist called up on her way back home shooting felt extremely happy for the happiness expressed by everyone on her winning the award.

Perhaps no one in Indian film fraternity has bagged the honor what Umasri has got that is almost in one year duration. Firstly she got the Karnataka state award as best actress for ‘Gulabi Talkies’, secondly the film was show in the Ossian International festival where she bagged Rs.2 lakh award along with honor to the film, thirdly the film ‘Gulabi Talkies’ got the entry to Indian Panorama section at the last year International Film Festival and now she got the National award crown for her performance.

What is interesting in this reel life awards for Umasri and Prakash Rai is not that both have strong stage background. Umasri hails from the WEAVERS community and Prakash Rai got the national film award for ‘Kancheevaram’ that focus on the silk WEAVERS of Kancheepuram!

‘When I see and hear the happiness of those spoke to me I feel the pride’. Winning national award for ‘Gulabi Talkies’ was something I did not expected. I completely owe it to Mr Girish Kasaravalli. I feel when people say I am the first one to get the state, national and international award plus the entry to Indian Panorama section for the same film.

What is further more interesting for Umasri is that she has been picked once again by golden man of Kannada cinema Girish Kasaravalli for his ‘Kanasemba Kudhureya Benneri’ that is beginning the shoot on 20th of this month. The entire film will be shot in Uttar Kannada starting from Bijapur. The role is male centric while I am the heroine of the film says Umasri.

375 films in Kannada many coveted roles this Thayavva, Sakavva, Putmalli….Umasri feels it is not possible to take up direction in her life. I cherish a lot of good experience while shooting ‘Gulabi Talkies’ says the former MLC the active Congress I member.
