Holding the wrong information in him the Jnanapeeth Award winner Girish Karnad disclosed the government would kill the art films when it stops giving subsidy to such films made in 16 mm. Taking interruption to it the director of information Vishukumar on the spot clarified that Karnadji is having wrong information and there is no such move in front of the government of Karnataka. The government is contemplating on giving subsidy to digital films is the growth heading for said Vishukumar.

However prior to this Girish Karnad appreciating the rich talent of Girish Kasaravalli, Ramachandra, Umasri, Prakash Raj narrated the days of art films. When Samskara was made in Rs.95000 we got back the money from government subsidy Rs.50000 and remaining from the award money. When ‘Vamshavruksha’ was made with just Rs.1.18 lakhs GV Iyer commented how do you get back Rs.18000.

Karnad remembered the days of Gejje Pooje when Puttanaji got the award for screenplay. BV Karanth said in anxiety wow Kannada film got national recognition. Now it not such an excitement he felt.

At the same Chitra Samooha felicitation to state and national award winning films function Girish Karnad urged the government to give moral and financial support to Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy that is headed by his Shisya TS Nagabharana.
