The film takes its name from the 1981 hit comedy made by Dwarakish. The new Guru Sishyaru is produced by Sharan`s Laddu Cinema House and Tharun Sudhir. Guru Sishyaru comes 10 years after Rambo, in which Sharan turned a full-time lead actor. It was his 100th film and he took a big risk to give up supporting comedy roles to move up. The film turned out to be a hit and he has gone on to star in over a dozen films in the lead role. But he ensured that all these films had a comedy theme.
With Guru Sishyaru, he is trying a slightly different approach after a decade. Though the film is stated to be a comedy drama the basic theme of the film is sports. And it is not a lauging matter. But if the response from the industry and fans so far is anything to go by, Guru Sishyaru is once again set to take Sharan a step up.
